1. The Etruscan Coast

Set out for the Etruscan Coast which lies between Livorno and Piombino and is so-called for the many Etruscan necropolises scattered across the area dating from before the advent of the Roman Empire.

On the Etruscan Coast you will find mainly sandy beaches: from the golden beaches of Baratti and San Vincenzo to the darker sands of Piombino.

Don’t miss Rosignano, famous for the white beaches of Rosignano Solvay and Vada. The splendor of these beaches with their extremely white sand and very clear sea is the result of artificial bleaching due to the presence of the famous factory that produces baking soda.

Near to Livorno, however, you can go explore the rocky coast of Castiglioncello with its beautiful natural pools and cliffs, or Quercianella with its tower or Castello Sonnino for a breathtaking view of the coast.

2. The Beaches of Versilia

When looking for gorgeous beaches in Tuscany, don’t miss the beaches of Versilia in the province of Lucca. The sandy shoreline is long and wide and it’s well-known for its nightlife and entertainment. The coast spans from Forte dei Marmi and Lido di Camaiore, which are full of beachgoers using the private beach clubs, up to Viareggio. So, if you are looking for a public, free beach, you’ll have to go to Pietrasanta.

While here, you must stop and take in the timeless Forte dei Marmi, one of the most beautiful beaches in Versilia which, for years, has been a favorite meeting place for VIPs and celebrities; here you can relax on the lounge chairs of the beach club and take a dip into the blue sea and in the evening, you can have fun in the famous La Capannina disco.

For a little relaxation, move towards Lido di Camaiore, a charming beach where the soft golden sand meets a splendid sea.

If you want to enjoy a breathtaking panorama, head to Marina di Pietrasanta. Five kilometers of very fine sand stretch out before crystalline sea and are surrounded by pine forests that fill the air with an intense perfume for a truly unique atmosphere.

3. The Argentario Beaches

For the most beautiful and well-known beaches of the Tuscan Maremma, go to the Monte Argentario coast with the beautiful Orbetello and the lagoon that divides the town from the rock promontory. Check out Cacciarella, one of the solitary coves on the Argentario coast, or Cala del Gesso and Cala Grande, with three pebble beaches, perfect for snorkeling.

If traveling with your family, make Feniglia and Giannella your destination as they are more suitable for children as well as Marina di Alberese, south of Marina di Grosseto. For a dive into history, go to the Bagni di Diocleziano which is a small beach close to the ancient remnants of a Roman villa; at low tide you can admire the ruins of the ancient fish farms emerging from the sea.

If you love white sand and transparent sea, travel to Cala Violina, in the municipality of Scarlino, in this small cove of the Bandite di Scarlino Nature Reserve, not very large and enclosed between two rock promontories. The panorama that awaits you is truly breathtaking.

4. The Beaches on Elba Island

Set out from the Tuscan coast to reach the splendid Island of Elba, one of the most fascinating destinations in Italy, and a heavenly place with some of the most beautiful beaches in Tuscany. In Portoferraio do not miss Padulella beach, a lovely beach about 150 meters long to the right of Capo Bianco, nor Sansone beach, the most scenic and famous, a quiet place located about 5 kilometers from Portoferraio. In the northern part of the island, Enfola beach is known for being the only beach on the island formed by an isthmus (a narrow land bridge).

On the western coast of the island after the town of Marciana, we recommend Chiessi, Patresi and Capo Sant’Andrea beaches.

To enjoy a little rest and relaxation, go to Cavoli beach, in the southern part of the island a few kilometers from the town of Marina di Campo. It’s a long, sandy beach, bathed by a pure, clean sea with very shallow water. There is also La Biodola beach which has similar characteristics to Cavoli.

Finally, stop at Secchetto beach, a beautiful, comfortable and well-equipped sandy beach club, or at Fetovaia beach, one of the best known and most popular on the whole island.

5. Giglio Island Beaches

After leaving the coast, reach the small Isola del Giglio to fully enjoy the magical atmosphere of the island. You can enjoy and relax in one of the many little gems scattered around its perimeter. Do not miss Giglio Campese beach, the largest on the island, or on the north-western coast, Cannelle beach, just 100 meters long, with its transparent sea and white cove, or Arenella and Caldane beaches on the east coast, around Giglio Porto, the latter can only be reached by sea or on foot.

These four main beaches of the island of Giglio are all different from each other and all the private beach clubs have both a portion of free beach and areas serviced and equipped by the bathing establishments.
